Two years ago, only 30 Beckham County youths were enrolled in 4-H. As of right now, there are 103 current 4-H members. The program is undoubtedly growing, but membership is still low compared to the years when Beckham County OSU Extension Educator Greg Hartman was in school here.

13-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT USES KNIFE IN THEFT OF CIGARETTES, ARRESTED AFTER BRIEF SEARCH

A juvenile was arrested and taken into custody Friday after robbing a convenience store with a knife, Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland said.
According to a police department report, the juvenile entered Spivey's Convenience Store, located on West 7th Street, around 6 p.m. wearing a "bandana type garment over his face and robbed them with a knife type instrument."

POLICE SAY CASE IS TOP PRIORITY
Courtney LeGrand says her family is still in shock following the intruder who broke into their home and severely assaulted their daughter Tuesday night.
"None of us have slept well," said LeGrand on Friday. "We all have to sleep in the same room at a hotel. We have not gone home yet. Until we get some kind of security system and until we know the person is caught, we wouldn't go back. We want to be able to go back to our own home. But we wouldn't be comfortable until that is done."

CHESAPEAKE EXPRESSES DISSATISFACTION WITH DELAYS

City leaders approved an ordinance allowing oil and gas drilling within city limits on Wednesday. The vote came after there was no call for discussion and no opportunity for commissioners to converse over the 18 page ordinance, taking effect in 30 days.

City commissioners split a vote Wednesday regarding an ordinance allowing oil and gas drilling in the city limits. The fallout from that vote resulted in commissioners taking no action on a permit requested by Chesapeake Energy to drill a well at the corner of Seventh and Pioneer in Elk City.
Board talks daycare, money cares and uniforms

Elk City Board of Education members worked through a two-and-a-half hour meeting Monday evening, handling a lengthy slate of year-end business, including financial matters, new plans for employee daycare and after-school programs for students, and a minor change to the uniform policy.
The board heard from intermediate high school Principal Tammy Russell and counselor Lauren Shelton regarding the GEAR UP program.
