One Church teams with Chamber, City to bring movies to Ackley Park

movies in parkIt has been a year in the making, but Elk City's One Church, the City of Elk City and the Chamber of Commerce have finally organized a free family-friendly event for the community to enjoy. Starting July 20, a 20-foot by 12-foot screen will show movies in the field just west of the tennis courts at Ackley Park.

The church, which just celebrated its one year anniversary, has planned three showings – "Cars 2" on July 20, "Soul Surfer" on July 27, and "Tangled" on August 3.

"I think it's a very good thing," Susie Cupp, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, said.

Cupp said the chamber has received calls in the past from individuals looking for family activities, much like this new Summer Movies in the Park, but had nothing to offer.

"So when they came up with that we thought it was a really good idea," Cupp said. "It will lure people to the town for one thing, and it's something new."

Each show will begin at dusk. Please bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.
