Ward 2 Commissioner Tom M. Johnson has said he will not run for re-election next spring, ending a 12-year tenure on the Elk City Commission.
The commissioner said he will be stepping down at the end of his third term to give City Hall a sense of continuity.
"I don't plan to run again at this point," he said Thursday, adding, "I don't ever say never.
"If a good candidate doesn't come up, you know, I'm not going to leave it hanging. Hopefully somebody will run."
