Leedey junior-to-be Drew Ward was recently named to ESPN’s third-team 2012 All-America list. In addition to the honor, Ward is currently in North Carolina trying to make the cut for the U-18 USA National team. The team starts off looking at 700 players, but since then has whittled that number down to 40 athletes, which Ward is currently among.
Ward is widely regarded as the nation’s top player in the 2014 class, and plays short stop for the Bison, who fell to Arnett in the quarterfinals of the state tournament this season. Though he battled an ankle injury toward the end of this past season, Ward still was one of only two sophomore players to make ESPN’s list on first, second, or third team.
According to ESPN.com, Ward followed up a .578 freshman campaign to bat .541 this year. He did so despite seeing fewer pitches due to numerous intentional walks.
