Elk City police search for suspect in home invasion, assault of 17-year-old girl

Elk City Police are looking for a male suspect in a home invasion Tuesday night that led to a 17-year-old female being assaulted in her bedroom.
According to a police department news release, ECDP responded to a home invasion call around 10 p.m. at the 200 block of Cypress Avenue. The residents, a family with four children, were home at the time of the invasion.
Earlier in the evening, the family had been away to attend a sporting event. After arriving back to their house, the children began to shower and get ready for bed.

Superintendent Buddy Wood said Tuesday that he is "about 90 percent sure" that he will move ahead with a plan which would put Elk City Schools at the vanguard for educational employee benefits.
Wood is considering an on-site daycare system for children of school employees. If the venture goes forward as it is planned, the daycare would be situated in the bottom floor of the old Longfellow school building.

The timing was right this go-around for the Spillers to try out as a family for the Red Carpet Community Theatre's latest play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
The family of four – Pat, Margy, and children Raine and Mahala Spillers, who are home schooled – teamed up with Margy's sister, Christy Russell, and her children Paden and Lily Dowdy for auditions almost two months ago. SALES TAX REVENUE LESS IN MARCH THAN PREVIOUS YEAR

Sales tax collections in March failed to beat the revenue earned by Elk City a year ago – the first time that's happened since 2010.
According to data released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission, the state paid City Hall just over $1.71 million for collections made last month. In March 2012, Elk City earned $1.25 million, which accounts for a 6.2-percent drop.
