The lights, so to speak, were turned out on the The Elk City High School boys golf at the Red River Invitational Boys at the Fort Sill Officers Club in Lawton Monday.

The Elks finished third overall with a composite score of just more than 304, which normally would have won them the tournament on a day when play moved faster — but two other groups weren’t’ allowed to finish due to lack of sunlight, prompting officials to discard the final 18 holes from the official score books.

As junior Joby Gray, who placed sixth individually with a first round 74 and second round 71, finished his last hole of the day in near pitch black conditions, tournament officials called off the event due to darkness.
