Red Tornadoes utilize strong pitching, early offense to defeat Elks

When faced with a perfect storm of difficulties that mount into a whirlwind of adversity, sometimes leadership is the one silver lining.

Connor Rogers stole home on a dropped third strike and would count as the only run for the Elks in their 11-1 loss to 4A No. 16 Clinton on Monday evening, but playing until the final out is what senior pitcher and second baseman Levi Wilson preaches.

After trailing on Rogers’ early run, Clinton embarked on a five-hit, four run bottom of the first, capitalized by second baseman Luis Salcido’s RBI single.

The Clinton bats remained hot as they stuck the Elks with another four-run inning in the second, thanks in part to pitcher Devin Ring’s two RBI single with runners in movement that gave the Red Tornadoes a 7-1 lead.
