OKLAHOMA CITY — Life is all about new experiences, and the Elk City girls golf team, which finished eleventh at this week’s 4A state golf tournament at Lake Hefner South Golf Course, now has a whopper under its belt.

“It was just really exciting [playing at state],” sophomore Kelsi Wilson said, after shooting an 81 Thursday, placing eighth overall individually.

“The conditions were a little bit better today. Yesterday I just didn’t make many putts and today I was able to.”

The Elkettes as a whole seemed to settle down the tournament’s second and final day, as they shaved three strokes off their team score from the the previous round, shooting a 419 on the day.

Wilson’s 81 was just four strokes off the low round of the tournament — a 77 shot by Bristow’s Kayla Schroeder. The ECHS sophomore said her improvements around the green helped her take advantage of the opportunity of teeing off on the back nine to start the day.
