OKLAHOMA CITY — The Elk City High School girls tennis team placed fourth overall in the 4A state tournament, at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center on Saturday.
While waiting for the podium presentation, the ECHS seniors took time to reflect on their final experiences at state.
Jada Hathaway, who plays No. 2 doubles with Chantelle Kauk, overcame surgery on her ACL this season, and played through the state tourney with a brace. Hathaway said she was proud to play in her final state tournament.
“My second time back here was good. I felt like, personally, I improved and did better. I feel very privileged to play here.”
Adilene Lopez and Leslie Aldaz, No. 1 doubles, were pleased with their play overall.
“Our goal was just to get up on the podium honestly and we achieved that. I’m proud of us,” Lopez said.
Aldaz then admitted there was a little bit of sadness to their final match together.
“Adilene’s serves were just on point. This is kind of bittersweet with us being seniors.”
