When he started his job as athletic director at Elk City High School in January, Bill Weatherly had a massive to-do list, and his biggest order of duty was addressed at the Elk City chapter of Kiwanis International’s luncheon on Tuesday.
“When I first came back here, I told you that one of my main things as an athletic director is facilities. Since then, we’ve launched a fundraising campaign to remodel Big Elk Stadium. This is one of our most pressing projects right now.”
Weatherly spoke to Kiwanis members for about thirty minutes, addressing not only the renovation of the football stadium, but other ECHS sports’ facilities as well. The message was clear: upgrades are necessary and forthcoming, pending the help of private donations.
“All of our facilities, other than the Pioneer Center, need work,” Weatherly said.
Weatherly emphasized since Big Elk Stadium was built in the 1950’s, there has not been a considerable amount of change to the venue. Other than a bit of painting, and replacement of the original wooden lockers, the dressing rooms on the southeast side of the stadium are among the facilities most in need of upgrades.
