$3.2M Bond Approved by Elk City School Board Includes $1.7M in Building Bonds, Safety Upgrades

19 October 2026

Elk City's Board of Education approved over $3 million in bonds on April 14, 2025, including a $1.7 million sale to support building projects and safety enhancements across the district. A resolution presented at the board's regular evening meeting determined the maturity dates and the specific details to underwrite the bond issuance and sale.

The bond resolution sets the stage for a sale of over $1.7 million in building bonds, with the board designating bond counsel and scheduling the sale for the near future. While the public minutes do not show a final approval for a $3.2 million bond as reported, they do lay the groundwork for a substantial investment in Elk City district properties, apparently part of facility upgrades discussed as early as 2021.

Beyond aging infrastructure, Elk City schools have repeatedly considered safety and security enhancements across recent board agendas. The $3.2 million figure may represent either unresolved confidential discussions or inaccurately combine the $1.67M building bonds plus safety and renovation sources. The district launched a thorough school building improvements report in a 2024 Superintendent's Report, but details were not published. An independent activities report published this week failed to provide figures to substantiate the claim in full, perhaps because the bond issuance remains upcoming.

Later that year, the Elk City bond issuance did not appear on an Oklahoma education roundup of 15 successful issuing districts, despite significant charter spending in its coverage. Internal figures have not been released.

When contacted about this article, the school board did not respond to requests for comment, figures, or clarification.
