There's a chance Elk City could get a fire training tower.

Whether that chance will become reality won't be announced until sometime in the next few months, as Western Technology Center picks between three cities that have – so far – shown interest.

City Manager Anita Archer found out that WTC was eyeing Weatherford, where it already has a campus, as the place where the tower would go. She wanted to go before the WTC Board of Education to throw Elk City's hat into the ring.

"Of course, we wanted to look at that, too. We're willing to look at all the invitations and offers we possibly can," Superintendent Hoyt Lewis told the Elk City Commission Wednesday.

Then the playing field got more crowded.

"Within the last few days – word of mouth is the best advertising you can have, I guess – the City of Clinton is wanting us to come to our next city council meeting," Lewis said.

After we look at everything, our board will make the most rational, logical decision to place it in the city that best fits its purpose.
