April marks National Child Abuse Prevention Month and to raise awareness among the public, 4-H students, DHS representatives and OSU extension educators tied blue ribbons in Elk City outside of Carnegie Library.
In conjunction with child abuse prevention, Craig Mahl, DHS Beckham and Roger Mills Counties director, said finding new foster homes is equally important.
Right now, only half of the area's DHS children are able to placed locally due to a shortage of foster homes and parents. He is trying to get that number up within the next year.
