Two people face charges after a Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputy found drugs in their vehicle, including methamphetamine inside a false Dr. Pepper can.

Adrian Calvario Rodriguez, 22, of Elk City, was booked for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving under the influence, and transporting an open container of alcohol, and Kendall Irene Perales, 18, of Southgate, CA, was booked for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, according to a report by Deputy Keith Smith.

Deputy Smith was on patrol about 9:30 pm on Jan. 13, driving the speed limit while traveling east on Third Street in Elk City, when a silver pickup reportedly passed him. Smith pulled the pickup over in the parking lot of Walgreen’s.

After smelling alcohol on the driver, Adrian Rodriguez, Deputy Smith gave Rodriguez a field sobriety test, which he failed. While speaking with the passenger, Kendall Perales, Smith smelled marijuana inside the pickup and saw a brown cigarette, which Perales admitted was marijuana, according to Smith’s report.

When Deputy Smith saw an unopened can of Dr. Pepper in the cup holder in the passenger door, he moved it to continue his search and felt that the can was hard. Further inspection revealed that the top of the can unscrewed, and inside there was a white bottle glued down to store items in it. There, he found a clear bag with a crystal substance in it that later tested positive for methamphetamine, according to Deputy Smith’s report.
