Boy died in fight after youth service

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner has rules the death of a Cordell boy a homicide.

Lane Madison, 12, died more than two months ago after an altercation at a church.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said that Madison and a 13-year-old boy were involved in a scuffle at Cordell's First Baptist Church after a youth service.

During the altercation, Madison hit his head on a concrete floor that had only a layer of carpet over it. He was taken to Cordell Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy showed the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner said.

According to the OSBI, several children witnessed the altercation and were interviewed by investigators.

The district attorney in Washita County would be responsible for filing any charges in the case. However, according tot he Clinton Daily News, no decision has yet been made as to whether the 13-year-old boy will be charged with a crime.

Assistant District Attorney Angela Marsee, who is covering the case, said Tuesday that her office had not yet received anything in writing from the medical examiner's office.

"I have not seen anything from the M.E.'s office," she said. "It's premature to comment on final charges. We need to review the final report from the medical examiner's office in conjunction with the OSBI report.

"What the found during the medical examiner's autopsy is critical to our evaluation, but without the written report we don't have all their findings."
