According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, a 61-year-old Mustang man traveled nearly the length of three football fields after first falling asleep at the wheel Wednesday night.

The report states that James Buckner was eastbound on State Highway 47, 6 miles east of State Highway 34, when at 9:10 p..m. he fell asleep and ran off the roadway. He traveled approximately 450 feet before overcorrecting, crossing the roadway and striking an opposite ditch. The truck then traveled another 75 feet, striking a tree and fence, where it became airborne.

Buckner's truck continued into a creek embankment.

He was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center by Leedey EMS, and was admitted with internal injuries. He was listed in stable condition.

Police were unsure if he was wearing a seatbelt, but OHP's accident report states that the cause of the collision was because Buckner's was driving under the influence.
OHP was assisted on the scene by Dewey County Sheriff's Department and Leedey EMS.
