An Elk City woman was arrested recently after police said she broke into a house and stole several items.

Police were first called on Saturday at about 7 p.m. by a man who said Amanda Jean Pena, 33, took his vehicle, a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, without permission.

Within 40 minutes, police got another two calls related to the case. The second call was from a man who lives in the 700 block of N. Walker Avenue, reporting that a suspicious woman driving a Jeep had stopped in the alleyway behind his residence and three some items over a fence.

When officers searched the scene, they found a piggy bank with a small amount of change, four black purses, one zebra print purse and a brown purse.

The third call that evening was from a woman living in the 900 block of Halsey Drive.

She told police that as she approached her residence, she noticed that a Jeep was parked there. When she got closer, the Jeep sped away at a high rate of speed.

When the victim noticed that someone had pried the air conditioner out of the back of the house.

After looking at the items recovered in the alleyway earlier in the night, the woman identified them as her belongings. She reported about $80 in change missing from the piggy bank.

Pena was later arrested by the Custer County Sheriff's Office at a residence in Weatherford later that night. Elk City Police took custody of Pena on Monday.

She was booked for possession of a vehicle with the intent to deprive the owner, and burglary in the second degree.
