Simon, however, willing to put up signage to help keep trucks off falcon

A group of residents who live on Falcon Road near County Club Boulevard faced the county commissioner who intends to improve a road that leads to their neighborhood.

The residents say the improved road will mean more truck traffic past their homes, but Simon has previously said he does not think the increase would be great. Still, though, the group gathered into an ad hoc meeting room in the Beckham County Courthouse Monday morning to air their complaints.

Many of the residents suggested that the county should instead go a mile further west from State Highway 34 to Merritt Road.

"It makes a lot more sense to bring people from 34 across to Merritt Road, and drop them into a corner that has traffic signal access and access to I-40," said Jeff Jackson. "You've got a whole bunch of commercial property down there, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to dump them onto Falcon when they could be routed down to Merritt Road."

But Commissioner Carl Simon, who initiated the project that lies in his district, was adamant.

"I'm willing to do anything except change the project," he said.
